This is the second and final part of the story of Bessie Connolly.

In part 1 we learned of the families difficulties during the Great depression and of how her fathers alcoholism had a terrible effect upon the family. But showing remarkable stoicism she finds her place in the world and meets and marries Bob, a reformed drinker.

In this program Bessie continues to recall stories of her life and she shares the terrible moment, when her husband, Bob, passes away from cancer. But her life is full of positive experiences, such as gaining her drivers license and yes, it’s one of those fantastic country town stories that will make you smile.

Then she meets Graham Connolly and is blessed by meeting a second man who she finds a real connection with, and so they marry. Then yet again her happiness is stolen when Graham passes away as a result of emphysema. How does she cope? In Bessie’s own words – “You don’t learn to forget them, you just learn to live without them.”

Finally, she gives some advice to all of us for having a happy relationship = there are just three things you need to do. But you will need to listen to her story to find out what they are.

Sadly, Bessie passed away some 21 months after she shared her story.
