This wine is hand-picked and destemmed by hand, so it is labour-intensive.
On the nose: Dark berries, purple flowers wrapped in hints of barnyard, and old leather in a good way.
In the mouth: The wine shows fresh ripe fruit intertwined with herbs, with traces of barnyard creeping in around mid-palate that I didn’t find on the nose at first, now washed with tannins that have a slight chalky mouth feel that finishes with a long mineral note. This Cabernet Franc has a complex side that has taken some time to show itself. I had 4 glasses of this wine, and it opened up every time.
I enjoyed this stunning wine with a slow-cooked leg of lamb, once again cooked in my mother-in-law’s wood stove. You just can’t believe the difference cooking with wood makes to the flavour and smell of the food.
I personally thought the wine was drinking at its best; this is a stunning Cabernet Franc.
