(PS Big thanks for lovely comments around BPH)
See you at the Picture House!

THIS WEEK

From visionary director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) comes a daring blend of science fiction, satire and dark comedy.
Emma Stone in a stand-out performance as a powerful CEO whose life spirals when she’s abducted by two conspiracy-driven young men—Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis—convinced she is an alien plotting humanity’s downfall. As the lines between truth, delusion, and survival blur, the story unfolds with Lanthimos’s signature mix of absurdity, tension and razor-sharp wit.

“..monstrously good.” 4.5 stars, Stephen A Russell.
From Guillermo del Toro comes Frankenstein, a long-awaited re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s timeless classic. This gothic tale follows Oscar Isaac (Dune) as Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but tormented scientist, and Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) as the Creature—brought to life in a tragic story of obsession, loss, and humanity. Joining them is Mia Goth (Pearl) alongside Christoph Waltz in a film that balances haunting spectacle with raw emotion.
SEE IT ON HALLOWEEN!

IT’S A HALLOWEEN SING-A-LONG R-RELEASE!  We’re goin’ up, up, up — and now it’s YOUR moment! Back by popular demand on Halloween weekend, seal the Honmoon and sing your favourite “KPop Demon Hunters” songs with HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys in this full-length, sing-along version of the Netflix hit film.
From directors Maggie Kang (The LEGO Ninjago Movie) and Chris Appelhans (Wish Dragon) comes a dazzling animated adventure where pop stardom meets the supernatural.

One of Aotearoa’s most beloved artists, Marlon Williams, sets out on his most ambitious musical project yet: creating an album sung entirely in te reo Māori.
Feeling burnt out from the touring cycle, acclaimed New Zealand musician and actor Marlon Williams returns to his quiet coastal hometown of Ōhinehou/Lyttelton to work on a life- and career-changing undertaking: recording an album, Te Whare Tīwekaweka, in his ancestral language of te reo Māori.

Chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 “Nebraska” album when he was a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom, struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past, with the incredible Jeremy Allen White perfectly cast as The Boss.
The album is extraordinary and marked a pivotal time in his life and this album is widely considered one of his most enduring works.

NEXT WEEK & SOON

A Sundance hit earlier this year, TWINLESS is the new film from writer/director/actor James Sweeney and stars an astonishing turn by Dylan O’Brien, who won the Sundance Jury Award for Acting for his performance.

Following the tragic death of his twin brother, Roman joins a bereavement support group and meets Dennis. As the two bond, an unlikely friendship evolves but it’s threatened by shocking and unsettling secrets.

Before Australia’s most renowned Indigenous actor David Gulpilil passed away in South Australia in 2021, he made his family promise to lay him to rest on his Homeland of Gupulul in Arnhem Land.

As he journeys back to the place of his birth, we’re given rare insight into Yolŋu culture as his family take on the huge logistical challenge spanning over four and a half thousand kilometres by vehicles, planes, boats, on foot, and by helicopter, over many months to bring him home.

From Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here, We Need to Talk About Kevin) comes a haunting drama that drips with beauty, dread, and the cost of motherhood.
It follows Jennifer Lawrence as Grace, a new mother living in a remote rural farmhouse, whose fragile grasp on reality begins to slip under the weight of postpartum depression, isolation, and the conflicts between love, identity, and obligation. Robert Pattinson plays Jackson, her husband, whose own inner struggles mirror the tension of their fractured domestic life.
