The team at Liberation Music are thrilled to welcome James Crooks to their musical fold.

The music career of James Crooks first kicked off in the passenger seat of his father’s car, drumming along with his hands on the dash to the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, and INXS. From here he learned to play guitar, bass, and drums by the age of 17, and developed a love for hip-hop music and DJ’ing – collaborating and performing with local artists in his home town of Newcastle.

With sights set much higher, James Crooks has since gone on to produce, record, and tour under various monikers with some of the most accomplished in the industry, including RÜFÜS, HEALTH, SAFIA, Thelma Plum and Tigertown.

2017 now sees James Crooks release his new single ‘Not Going Away’, co-written with, and featuring the delicate pop vocal of Kate Martin. The track is a powerhouse alternative-pop tune harnessing elements of electronic genres and pop undertones, that compliment Kate’s unique voice. James Crooks explains the partnership:

“I first met Kate through a close friend of mine, and was instantly a fan. Originally we organised to record a topline together, however once the session was done, I showed her a different track which she immediately connected with. Something clicked between us creatively and ‘Not Going Away’ was born. I remember us laughing at how organic everything was!”

“The song is about 2 people being connected that are always there for each other, no matter what the circumstances are.”
