Irish songwriter Garrett Anthony Rice storms back with “Purple Man (For Jimi)”, a bruising glimpse of his upcoming double album EQUINOX. Hailing from County Dublin and now based in Greystones, County Wicklow, Rice proves he’s not just paying homage to rock’s giants, he’s carving out his own territory.
The track hits hard from the off, anchored by a looping, overdriven guitar riff and driven by a vocal that’s calm yet razor-sharp. There’s a raw energy here that nods to late-90s alternative rock, yet Rice’s delivery never feels like a pastiche, it’s precise, punchy, and fully his own.
Produced with UK legend Chris Potter, who’s worked with The Rolling Stones, U2, and Paul McCartney, EQUINOX promises to be a bold statement. And if this single is anything to go by, Rice is playing the long game, ambitious, confident, and quietly lethal.
With “Purple Man (For Jimi)”, Garrett Anthony Rice is coming for rock, and he’s coming strong.
