On ‘Amaze You’, the Seattle artist makes a quieter, more considered kind of promise
There is something almost unfashionable about optimism done properly. Not the kind that glosses over difficulty, but the kind that looks at it directly and decides to keep going anyway. AudioGust has built a substantial independent catalogue around exactly that quality, and his new single ‘Amaze You’ might be the clearest expression of it yet.
The track arrives ahead of a full album due on 17th July, and it announces itself with a deceptively simple premise. The narrator is not promising transformation: He is not guaranteeing anything. What he is offering, in the words of the song itself, is the possibility that: ‘maybe I’ll remind you of the storms that just blow through / or maybe I’ll amaze you’. Two outcomes. One modest, one hopeful. Both honest.
It is a small lyrical move that carries real emotional weight. The person being sung to has reason to be sceptical. The song does not argue with that. Instead it sits with it, acknowledges it, and asks only for the chance to show up differently over time. That is a harder thing to write than it sounds.
Production-wise, ‘Amaze You’ reflects the control AudioGust exercises over every element of his output. Synthesisers, piano, bass, drums, and layered backing vocals build the track’s warmth steadily before the bridge strips everything back to an acapella vocal section. It is the moment where the song admits the other person’s doubts are real, not obstacles to be overcome but facts to be lived alongside. The final chorus earns its lift because of that admission rather than in spite of it.
AudioGust has described the writing process with characteristic directness. The line about amazing someone arrived first, and the song grew outward from it. That kind of clarity of intent tends to show in finished recordings, and it does here.
At a point in independent music where the emotional register often defaults to either ironic detachment or unearned euphoria, ‘Amaze You’ offers something less easy and more durable.
