A bedroom in Southern California, senior year of high school, a guitar and a head full of pressure. That’s where ‘Out of My Mind’ began, and it’s exactly the kind of origin story that makes TYBIRD’s new single hit as hard as it does.
Fronted by Ty Morgan, TYBIRD channel the swagger of classic rock through a distinctly modern lens, and ‘Out of My Mind’ is proof. The song opens on a stripped back acoustic guitar figure before the full band crashes in, building toward a guitar solo that’s as cathartic as the story behind it.
“‘Out of My Mind’ is about what it feels like to have so much pressure coming at you from every direction while trying to stay true to yourself. I wrote it in my bedroom during my senior year of high school, when I was being pressured to follow the traditional path of going to college while I was choosing to put everything I had into music. I poured a lot of emotion and frustration into this song, and I think that’s what makes it so personal to me. It was also one of the first songs we recorded together as a band, so it really represents TYBIRD and what we stand for: trusting yourself, taking the risk, and going all in on what you believe in.”
Ty Morgan wrote the track while wrestling with expectations to go to college instead of chasing music full time, and that tension runs through every line. It later became one of the first songs TYBIRD recorded together as a band, mixed by Brian Scheuble, whose credits include Mötley Crüe, Tom Petty and Jon Bon Jovi.
