nobg '23...honoring humanity, empathy, courage and friendship

November 9 and 10, 2023 mark the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht. The Night of Broken Glass, when the Jeannie of poisonous religious and racial hatred was released in Hitler’s Germany against the Jewish People.

Dark and troubled times have once again returned to a post-lockdown world riven with division, misinformation, lies, and the rise of hatred, oppression, erosion of women’s hard-won rights, violence, brutal wars, coups, sickness, floods, fires and a tidal wave of fleeing humanity. It is so important to demonstrate courage and decency in humanity as the YWC (Young World Choir) focuses on honouring humanity, empathy, compassion and respect in the commemorative music-theatre piece, NOBG ’23.

Drawing upon inspirational stories of Indigenous elder, Uncle William Cooper and his private citizen’s protest, the Chinese Schindler, sending thousands from Vienna to sanctuary in Shanghai, the Maharaj of Gujurat, we remember, inspire and unite. Young, young at heart, abled, not so mobile, blind, Muslim, Jew, Sikh, Christian and a multicultural panorama of performers come together in friendship and harmony in a musical language that transcends borders, politics, and language.

Performances are on the 24th and 25th. In these troubling times, doing nothing is no longer an option, and we stand together for peace and mutual self-respect.

Lockdown, health issues, and a climate of fear and war have slowed the process down, but the resolve and commitment to inclusion and peace remain unbowed.

The YWC will work alongside other groups, Sefra Burstin dancers, the Donna Gabriel team, IOFC, Cultural Infusion, Blind Sports and Arts, Tongji Shanghai Alumni and others to present NOBG the concert version as a stepping stone before a huge music theatre Coalition presentation in late March for freedom.

Please join rehearsals and performances, and spread the word, loud and far!
