Some records announce themselves immediately. Others feel like they’ve been pulled from somewhere slightly harder to reach: a late-night playlist, a half-lit room, a forgotten SoundCloud page.
Draymond’s new track ‘iceberb’ belongs to the latter.
The latest release from the Los Angeles and Tokyo-based artist exists in that increasingly blurred territory where underground rap, club music and online culture collide. It’s sparse, atmospheric and intentionally imperfect, allowing the personality of the vocals to do most of the work.
There’s an unmistakable Southern influence running through the track, but ‘iceberb’ isn’t simply an exercise in Atlanta-inspired rap. Draymond takes those familiar melodic textures and pushes them into something more fragmented and contemporary, reflecting the restless energy of the internet era.
The result feels less like a traditional rap single and more like a moment.
That immediacy is part of what makes the record work. The production doesn’t overcrowd the space, leaving room for the voices to shift between melody, repetition and loose bursts of energy. The chemistry between Draymond and collaborator Scarsbleedpurple gives the track an almost accidental quality, as though the listener has walked into the session rather than been presented with a perfectly finished product.
That feeling makes sense when considering the environment in which it was created.
During a month of near-constant recording, Draymond and Scarsbleedpurple reportedly made more than 100 songs together. Somewhere in that flood of ideas, ‘iceberb’ emerged as one that stuck.
Rather than sanding away the spontaneity, they kept it.
And that’s where the track finds its identity.
There’s a growing appetite for music that feels less polished and more immediate; records that retain the weirdness, imperfections and unpredictability that can disappear when everything is engineered for maximum accessibility. Draymond leans directly into that space.
For Draymond, it’s also a glimpse at a wider creative direction: club music with rap at its core, stripped back enough to breathe but unpredictable enough to keep listeners guessing.
