The Drogheda artist has been finding his way towards this kind of candour since 2016, when he began experimenting with FL Studio in his bedroom and sharing tracks with friends. Early influences included Drake, Travis Scott, Kanye West and Chris Brown, with rap providing a testing ground for different flows and cadences. Slowing things down and leaning into R&B gave his songwriting more room to breathe.
Across ‘Finer Things’, ‘Waiting for You’ and ‘One and Only’, he has developed a fluid approach to rapping and singing, drawing on lived experience to shape his melodies. Along the way, he has picked up support from Hot Press and District Magazine, secured a Track of the Week on Today FM, and performed at Odd Mollie’s for Cats n Dogs and Breaking Sound in Dublin.
‘Heartbreak in the Summer’ brings that emotional directness into sharper focus. Awesimon leaves the messy questions open, resisting the temptation to claim he’s moved on before he has.
