I have always had a love affair with the Louis Roederer Blanc de Blancs. I find it bigger and bolder than most other champagnes on the market. The 2016 is no exception its fresh and crisp at eight years old its still young and tastes rather youthful this wine will age for at least five more years before it reaches maturity.
The Nose: The wine opens up over a hour in the bottle with aromas of citrus and notes of fresh peach and white flowers tumbled in toasted almonds.
In the mouth: Buttery notes, warm pastry, long and bold filling the mouth with rich fruit and bubbles supported by cleansing acid washing over the palate effortlessly filling the senses.
Full-bodied, layered with fruit, racy acid and a long almost juicy bubble filled finish. What more could you want from a Champagne!!!
Rating: ?, For me this one of those love it or hate it styles, because it’s so big and bold it’s not going to be for every one! Champagne never is, you just have to find the style that suits you.
Believe me there are a lot out there I don’t like at all, including their flag ship Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal, at $500.00 a bottle.
If I am going to drop &500.00 on a bottle of Champagne give me – Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill every time.
Wine fact: During world war 2 “Winston Churchill Quoted = Remember gentlemen, it’s not just France we are fighting for, it’s Champagne!”
Champagne is the one white wine that should be served ice cold. The second most important thing when drinking Champagne is using the correct Glass wear. If you are going to drink quality wines red or white use the very best glass wear as it truly will change the flavours of the wine for the better.
If you have just spent a load of $ on a bottle of Champers you might as well go for broke!
So I went all out and cooked a feast – a creamy crab quiche (real crab meat) with home made calamari fritters. and a shaved parmesan bread stick all cooked in the pizza oven. The smokey notes and flavours the fire imparts into the food is more than a match for the solid bead of bubbles in this wine.
