Liz Porter is a Melbourne-based writer best known for her prize-winning books about  “the real CSI”  – the way forensic science is used to solve crime.  Her latest book is Crime Scene Asia: when forensic evidence becomes the silent witness.  First published in Singapore In 2018 by Marshall Cavendish and now republished by Big Sky,  it features 15 crimes from   Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and The Philippines, in which forensic evidence was crucial to either the conviction or the exoneration of the people charged. It also includes the case of a Singaporean exonerated by forensic evidence after being convicted for murder and serving eight years in a NSW jail.

Liz is also the author of Written on the Skin: an Australian forensic casebook, joint winner of the 2007 Ned Kelly award for the best true crime book and Cold Case Files, winner of Sisters in Crime’s 2012 Davitt award for best true crime book.

Her first book, the novel Unnatural Order, published by Reed Books in 1995, was republished as an e-book by Clan Destine Press in 2016. A former award-winning legal affairs reporter with Melbourne’s The Sunday Age, she works as a freelance journalist and media adviser.  She is an open water swimmer, a passionate fan of the AFL club St Kilda, and a member of a pop music choir.
