Writers Liz Porter and Maggie Baron take a humorous stab at forensics and crime literature to reveal what works – and what doesn’t work – when it comes making a killing.
Liz Porter is best known for her prize-winning books about “the real CSI” – the way forensic science is used to solve crime. They include Written on the Skin: joint winner of the 2007 Ned Kelly award for the best true crime book, and Cold Case Files, winner of Sisters in Crime’s 2012 Davitt award for best true crime book. Her latest book is Crime Scene Asia: when forensic evidence becomes the silent witness.
Her first book, the novel Unnatural Order (Reed Books, 1995) was republished as an e-book by Clan Destine Press in 2016. A former award-winning legal affairs reporter with The Sunday Age, she works as a freelance journalist and media adviser. Maggie Baron is a former forensic scientist who worked in the area of drug and trace evidence analysis for six years. She now works in infrastructure and transport planning, and in 2015 became Sisters in Crime’s inaugural President. She has finished her first crime novel featuring a forensics expert and is working on her second.
