It’s October already! WHA?! Which means it’s daylight savings down here in Naarm/Melbourne (my favourite time of year). There are heaps of live music festivals and events coming up. So many.
I’ve got a bunch of things happening, so I thought I would compile them all right here for you so you can plan your days and nights ahead.
Last month was absolutely off the charts. I got to perform my new quadraphonic work at the Melbourne Recital Centre which was a real career highlight, and I made my Night Cat debut on a line up of out-of-this-world talented musicians. I’m also nearly ready to release some new music. Eeeeeeeee…

Jazz pianist Monique diMattina has been writing a brand new musical: Stella: The Miles Franklin Story. It is a heart-warming, feminist and very modern tale accompanied by a great ensemble, featuring Alma Zygier as Stella Franklin. We are doing a few workshop performances of this new work before it takes the world by storm.

My incredibly talented friend Cheryl Durongpisitkul (saxophone, flute) has composed a moving new work to premiere at this year’s Melbourne International Jazz Festival. I am honoured to be a part of this ensemble. The music is extremely challenging, and extremely wonderful. Cheryl was also recently featured in an article about gender and jazz, which I contributed to – you can read it here.

Finally, I have a little solo show coming up as part of the inaugural Eight Six Festival happening along the 86 tram line. It’s not yet announced, and it’s still a bit of a secret, but I’m telling you anyway just in case you’d like to get prepared. What I can tell you is that it will kick off at 6:30pm and happen on one of the best roof tops north side. More on that soon.
