6-piece outfit The People Versus have seen a rapid rise of success since forming in 2019. The BBC Radio 6 Oxford based band combine dark alt-indie sounds with an experimental dream pop touch, and it’s truly captivating. Their new single ‘Pretty Words’ is full of drenched guitars, complex instrumentation and empowering vocals that take centre stage.

Lead singer Alice Edwards leans on interpretation of storytelling and she uses this to her full advantage, as the track spirals from a dark and eerie verse to a massively euphoric chorus with Edwards taking full vocal flight. It is spellbinding from The People versus, as they continue to make music that stands out from the crowd. For fans of The Weather Station and Bess Atwell, check out ‘Pretty Words’ now.

The band say “It’s the feeling that you’re being attacked by an ocean whilst you’re at sea, when the reality is that even if the ocean was sentient, you are so small that you wouldn’t be a factor in its decision making. This is drawn in parallel with when how you feel has no effect on a situation, how unrequited love won’t make someone love you; but that doesn’t mean you can switch it off.”
