Storehouse – ‘quilted Works’ By Helen Richards

This is quilting as you’ve never imagined. Extraordinary artworks created with hand printed fabric, fibre and thread. Helen prints, layers, stitches and constructs textured and infinitely tactile pieces that are as appealing framed and hanging on a wall as they are being draped on a chair. Using diverse reference including native flora, watery swirls and oriental patterning, Helen’s work is unique and contemporary whilst having the warmth and knowing of a time honoured craft.

Helen Richards – Helen is a Melbourne based textile artist who designs and handcrafts contemporary quilts and homewares. Her designs are simple and stylish, made to compliment modern homes and lives.

Helen draws on traditional quilting and patchwork craft with the eye of a contemporary artist. Each piece is an original work using natural materials, hand-printed fabrics, patchwork appliqué and intricate quilting methods to create textiles that are at once practical, beautiful and beguiling.

From rock pools in the endless coastline to the beautiful sparse vegetation of the Top End, her work reflects the Australian landscape in its many guises. Her quilts have found loving owners in beautiful homes in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth as well as in the USA, England, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Helens quilts are made for sensitive modern souls: to be dreamt under, to bring joy to the eyes and comfort to the body, and to become part of a beautiful life.
