Ready, Steady, Die! Channel Grit and Vulnerability on Their Boldest Single Yet ‘WYSIWYG’

Following the success of their 2022 album Accidents and breakout single Settle, British-American electronic duo Ready, Steady, Die! return with “WYSIWYG,” a powerful, genre-bending release celebrating International Drag Day.

An acronym for “What You See Is What You Get,” the track sees Morgan Visconti (New York) and Sam K (UK) expanding their collaborative process, this time writing to a concept and script by director Max Clendaniel and DP/writer Matt Riley. The result blurs the lines between music and film — a short cinematic story scored by brooding, electronic pop-rock rather than a conventional music video.

The video explores dual identity and freedom of expression, following a man who trades his mundane 9-to-5 life for nights in drag, performing for an online audience. Both surreal and deeply human, it reflects on societal masks, vulnerability, and the power of authenticity.

Sonically, WYSIWYG fuses cinematic new wave, gritty electronica, and pop-rock intensity. Driving bass, industrial drums, and a Zeppelin-esque post-chorus wall of sound create a dramatic backdrop for Sam K’s emotionally restrained yet piercing vocals. Lines like “We are survivors, you and I… we are the same” underscore the track’s raw, universal message.

With its anthemic energy and cinematic ambition, WYSIWYG marks Ready, Steady, Die!’s most accessible release to date — a bold step forward that reinforces their reputation for crafting emotionally charged, genre-defying music.
