port melbourne's historic prince alfred hotel launches free music on friday and saturday nightsThe iconic Prince Alfred Hotel in Bay Street Port Melbourne will launch a regular program of free music on Friday and Saturday nights from Friday 22 March.  First up is the hot blend of jazz, swing, blues and boogie that is The Shuffle Club – featuring sizzling sax, bass, drums, piano and outstanding vocals. They will be supported by popular St Kilda singer-songwriter Simon Phillips from 7.30pm. On Saturday 23 March brilliant indie roots artist Ben Jansz, who takes the ‘one man band’ concept to a new level, will perform his impressive originals from 9pm to midnight.

Courtney Joel, co-founder and director of ICON Hospitality Group that acquired the Prince Alfred in December said, “Most live music in Port Melbourne has disappeared in recent years, so we are hoping locals will eagerly embrace our new music program, particularly as there is no cover charge.”

“We are committed to supporting the indie and original music scene so we will present blues and jazz on Friday nights and great indie acts on Saturdays.

“We are delighted to have local legends The Shuffle Club open the program for us on Friday night, supported by popular troubadour Simon Phillips. Ben Jansz launches the Saturday night for us. Their performances have been made possible by the City of Port Phillip who has generously helped subsidise the opening evening through their Locals Playing Locals program.

“These amazing performers pave the way to a program of outstanding local musicians every weekend, and we can’t wait to showcase them in our newly renovated bar and stage area,” Courtney said.

Following the launch, the free music program will run from 9pm to midnight every Friday and Saturday night at the Prince Alfred, 355 Bay Street Port Melbourne.
