Molly Healey Unleashes a Hypnotic, Haunting Evolution with ‘White Noise’

Instrumentalist, composer, and sonic trailblazer Molly Healey returns with “White Noise,” a reimagined and electrifying centrepiece drawn from her 2019 album Circles. Now reborn as part of her latest album With the Wind: An Orchestral Dance Music Suite, the track marks a bold new chapter in Healey’s ongoing reinvention of orchestral music for the modern era.

For a decade, Healey, known for her work as a longtime fiddler with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, has carved out her own lane with what she calls Orchestral Dance Music (ODM). It’s a genre defined by lush strings colliding with dance-driven rhythms, by emotional depth wrapped in electronic pulse. “White Noise” is perhaps her most striking illustration of that fusion yet.

The track is a storm of violin, cello, synth, and layered vocals, all woven over restless, propulsive beats. It channels the atmospheric tension of Radiohead, the cinematic trip-hop of Massive Attack, and the mystical alt-pop of AURORA, yet every bar remains unmistakably Healey. The song’s emotional core is raw and vulnerable: a reflection on self-loathing, isolation, and the numbing static of technology that floods modern life. And still, its dark introspection is matched by an undeniable physicality; the urge to move is woven into its DNA.

“White Noise is a song that I’m deeply connected with; the lyrics are personal, the string arrangements are my modus operandi, and the mood comes from my dreamscapes when I close my eyes at night,” Healey shares, underscoring the intimacy behind its creation.

Recorded in her home studio, the 2025 version of “White Noise” features beats and sound design by Dave Tough (Belmont University), mixing by Tyler Norris (Ma6io), and mastering by Duncan Ferguson (The Voltage Exchange). An animated music video is also in the works, expanding the track’s surreal emotional and visual universe.

Healey continues to push the boundaries of what orchestral music can be. Traversing trance, trip-hop, downtempo, and cinematic electronica, all anchored by her signature strings, this album promises an otherworldly journey only she could orchestrate.
