GEORGE LANE SATURDAY MARCH 18 2023

Hugo returns from touring in Europe with his Italian band Fatalists to
present his latest album Once Upon A Time In Italy with close
collaborators Michelangelo Russo & Georgia Knight at George Lane.

“Once Upon A Time In Italy, in the vein of the previous Taken by the
Dream, is none other than the elaboration of forty years of records,
concerts, explorations, travels and passions of a man and a musician who
has not abjured his own ideas but has slowly ferried them into a new era.

Hugo, as Tom Waits would say, is someone who has voodoo. He has
always had it and the voice, the sounds, the intimate and liturgical
dimension in which the songs develop, now more than ever lead us back
to his spirituality, to his strong bond with the roots and with the essence of
music.”
(Dominic Grio, Out Takes, Italy)

Hugo Race, internationally based producer, composer, performer and author,
delivers intense sonic soundscapes that merge folk, experimentalism,
electronica and rock. In the arc of three decades Hugo has left a mercurial
trail of musical works spanning his many own releases and multiple
international collaborations across studio albums, film and theatre
productions, touring and festivals.

In 2016, Hugo’s first book was published by Transit Lounge (Australia), describing his musical journey across three decades entitled Road Series http://www.hugoracemusic.com/road-series/

Georgia Knight’s debut EP ‘Hell On Bent Street’ (on Cheersquad Records) is
an introspective work of dark indie-rock. Fittingly, former Nick Cave & The
Bad Seeds member Hugo Race is a recent collaborator of Knight’s.

Georgia leans into her myriad influences for the EP including the likes of
Sparklehorse, Sandy Denny and The Dirty Three, to name a few.

Michelangelo Russo is a visual artist and musician.

He started painting at the age of 12 then during the 80s studied architecture
and graphic design in Pescara and Rome. In early 1990, after staging several
shows in Italy, Michelangelo travelled to Berlin where he felt a strong affinity
with the city’s artistic energy and established a studio in the heart of East
Berlin.

At the end of 1993, Michelangelo moved to Melbourne to continue in
pursuing his career in both painting and music. He has extensively toured
Europe playing concerts and experimental music festivals appearing on
several seminal recordings. Since 1994 he has collaborated widely with
musician/songwriter/producer Hugo Race, and composers/musicians Wendy
Morrison and Andrew Ogburn amongst others.

Once Upon A Time In Italy is released by European independent label
Santeria Records/Audioglobe and available in Australia through MGM
Sydney. Hugo Race Fatalists began in Italy in 2007 and have released 5
albums and one EP.
