Burden’s Landing Channel Inner Turmoil Into a Grunge-Fuelled Release on “Blank Page”

Washington, DC alternative rock band Burden’s Landing embraces the healing power of loud guitars on “Blank Page”, a powerful single that transforms depression, self-doubt and emotional exhaustion into something defiantly life-affirming.

Built around crashing guitars, driving drums and a chorus that feels destined for sweaty club shows, “Blank Page” carries the raw urgency of ’90s grunge while borrowing the melodic instincts of modern alternative rock. It is a song that does not hide its scars, but instead turns them into fuel.

The track was written by frontman Noah Mullinax during one of the lowest points of his life, and that honesty runs through every second of the recording. Rather than dressing difficult emotions in metaphor, “Blank Page” captures the feeling of fighting your own thoughts before gradually finding the strength to move forward. Mullinax describes writing the song as the moment that helped break a cycle of depression, giving the track an authenticity that cannot be manufactured.

The lyrics reflect that emotional journey without becoming overly descriptive. Opening with “It starts again within the life of memory”, the song immediately places the listener inside a recurring mental battle, where old thoughts refuse to stay buried. Later lines such as “What’s been done can’t touch the beast of what’s yet to be” shift the focus away from regret and toward possibility, suggesting that the future still holds more weight than the mistakes of the past.

The repeated declaration, “I am blank, I am no one”, initially feels like surrender, but within the context of the song it becomes something more complex. Instead of representing defeat, it feels like wiping the slate clean, letting go of the identity shaped by anxiety and creating space for something new.

Musically, Burden’s Landing understands that contrast often creates the strongest emotional impact. While the lyrics wrestle with darkness, the instrumentation constantly pushes forward. The band’s chemistry is evident throughout, with thick, overdriven guitars balanced by melodic flourishes that stop the song from collapsing under its own weight. The rhythm section provides relentless momentum, giving “Blank Page” the feeling of someone refusing to stay down no matter how heavy things become.

The single also highlights the band’s growing confidence since emerging from Washington, DC’s DIY scene. Having built their reputation through energetic live performances and guitar-driven songwriting, Burden’s Landing continues to refine a sound that comfortably blends grunge, punk, shoegaze and indie rock without feeling tied to any one influence.

“Blank Page” is not a song that promises everything will be okay. Instead, it captures the much more believable moment when someone chooses to keep going despite not having all the answers. In doing so, Burden’s Landing has delivered a track that feels cathartic and instantly relatable, proving that sometimes the most memorable songs are also the most honest.
