In the glass a dense dark red crimson fruit fading to an old house brick brown around the edges.
On the nose bright red raspberries and cherries and a wonderful forest floor pong wrapt up in a little spice that I have not smelt for some time. Keeping in mind the bottle development as this wine is 12 years old.
As the wine opened up over an hour, layers of cherry started to build then an hour later earth and soil began to wrap themselves in tannins that have built slowly as the wine has reached its drinking peak. This is a wonderful old Pinot Noir.
I had planned for this bottle and went all out cooking – Duck à l’orange on a bed of buttery mass potatoes. (Not the original recipe)
