The Life and Time Stories of Australian Musicians, Performance Artists and those who commenced their contributed to the Australian Music industry from the 1950’s through to the 1970’s.

Australian Rock of Ages is a series of interviews conducted with artists, entrepreneurs, managers.  Those who promoted and contributed to the Australian Music Industry.  All were born in Australia or settled in Australia during the halcyon years of the late 1950’s through to the late 1970’s.

We present a different story each month.

This program features the 3-part story of Lindsay Field.

Born in 1950 in New Zealand, Lindsay carefully and methodically unpacks his life from his earliest memories. He has a most engaging manner which is demonstrated throughout this interview.

We learn about his father and mother and, it’s his father in particular that has an interesting story in his own right. Lindsay reveals that he was a senior officer in the NZ Air force.  However, far from being an authoritarian figure he was most supportive and encouraging of the young Lindsay.

There are many stories shared, including those about Lindsay’s school life.  One fascinating a story is about a teacher who set the kids a project about a major earthquake in Chile.  The kids were required to draw a picture of a tsunami crashing over their homes. It turned out to be an exercise that scared all the kids and left a lasting impression on Lindsay.

Engaging, informing and entertaining, Lindsay takes us all with him on a walk through his early years.  This sets the scene for his amazing story that includes meeting and working with some very famous people.

Stories involving audiences and up and coming talent are told over the following two-parts of his story.

In Part 2, we learn of Lindsay’s experiences in a boarding school. This was an experience he really wanted, but it didn’t quite turn out in the way he expected.

It was there that he experienced his first attack of Bell’s Palsy. That first attack was very scary for a young boy. It is a condition that would recur again throughout his life.

One of the great things that happened at boarding school was his introduction to music. This would have a profound and lasting influence on him and helped shape a lifelong career.

Lindsay was gifted with a beautiful singing voice. This would eventually lead Lindsay to gaining a lead role in the rock musical of the 1970’s – Hair.

His vocal and music playing career is one that continues through until today.  One clear example of his talent is when Lindsay provided backing vocals for John Farnham on his many tours.

In the final part of his story Lindsay continues his story of his life and adventures. We listen to stories of him as a lead cast member in Hair. We also learn how another attack of Bell’s Palsy bought his career with Hair to a very quick ending.

Yet out of apparent disasters, often wonderful things grow. Lindsay shares how a particular and special encounter leads him even deeper into his journey of self discovery. This was a journey that commenced in the 1970’s and continues today.
