love police records & tapes announces new album cool dead by nashville underground heroes justin and the cosmics

FIRST SINGLE & VIDEO “ALL MY FRIENDS ARE GONNA BE STRANGERS” OUT NOW

Love Police Records & Tapes is excited to announce the pending release of Cool Dead, the new album from dead set Nashville legends JUSTIN & THE COSMICS. The album is out August 18 and available to preorder now. The album’s first single (and video) “Are All My Friends Gonna Be Strangers” is out now.

Justin Collins is the last undiscovered rock and roll hero and everyone in Nashville knows it. Once thrown out of Nashville’s scariest bar for turning Iggy Pop all the way up and surfing on a pool table, Collins is a fixture on the Nashville underground and has produced records by Deer Tick, Diamond Rugs , Nikki Lane, T Hardy Morris, Middle Brother, and many others. He’s been on David Letterman. Pat Sansone, of Wilco, produced his last record and Elvis Costello is a fan. Justin & The Cosmics toured Australia in 2018, opening for Deer Tick.

Justin & The Cosmics’ forthcoming new album Cool Dead is Collins’ self-produced masterpiece. As punk as a freight train, as country as a weed-wacker, and, if you’re smart enough to know it, downright terrifying in its beauty, the 12-song record slashes its way out of your speakers like The Cosmics’ live show yet soars like an eagle with talons gripping your sad little heart. From the instant punk classic “Asshole Eyes,” to the album’s epic condemnation of pop culture worship, “Am I Supposed To Care So Much” (with stylistic nods to both Lou Reed and David Bowie’s “Heroes”), to a lonesome and forgotten tune written by Collins’ friend (and Margo Price co-writer) Caitlin Rose, Cool Dead is a record for these times and the record that everyone around Nashville knew that Justin and The Cosmics would one day deliver.

“I first met Justin Collins in a smoke-filled Fran’s in East Nashville in a past lifetime. His karaoke performance of So Long, Marianne” blew my mind, as did his total energy and warmth after we were introduced. His brother Scott, and sister in law also ruled, and I quickly realised the Collins gang were our people. We soon arranged the passage of both Justin & The Cosmics (Justin’s band featuring his bro-in-law) and The Smoking Flowers (Scott and Kim Collins band) to Australia for a tour including legendary performances by both at Boogie festival in 2018.

“Over the years Justin and I have had deep hangs and he has shared his dreams of his eventual debut album. I always said we would help when the time was right, and that time is now. Music lovers, meet America’s second best weed eater, and Nashville’s own JUSTIN & THE COSMICS. I brand their music “regional rock”. It’s like the Georgia Satellites and Springsteen if the Boss actually grew up in Nebraska. Their live shows are rawkus and rockin and we hope to get them out here sometime later this year. Let these tunes get under your skin sometime soon.”- BT, Love Police

“The swagger and rock hit early with Nashville’s Justin & The Cosmics laying down some primal leather- and denim-clad rock’n’roll… They had a bit of New York punk and glam, a healthy serving of Detroit ramalama and a nod to Elvis. All in all a refreshing reminder of the power of rhythm, riffs and attitude.” – Chris Familton, The Music.com.au

“If you want to see a real punk band, not some indie band that calls themselves that because they use fuzz pedals and wear Converse, then Justin & the Cosmics is the band you need to see. There’s the Clash, the Modern Lovers, and even that original punk, Elvis, all in their sound. Collins is a sneering amalgam of, like, every early American male badass; Johnny Cash, James Dean, Elvis, and Dylan are all there. His voice was gritty and snotty and at moments drifted into southern rockabilly inflections. If you’re looking for the great punk-influenced rock and roll in Nashville, this band (is) more authentic than all the groups of children hardly old enough to drink that constantly get buzz as the best ‘punk’ groups in town.” — Jacqui Sahagian, No Country For New Nashville

JUSTIN & THE COSMICS’ COOL DEAD IS RELEASED ON ALL FORMATS AUGUST 18 THROUGH LOVE POLICE RECORDS & TAPES.
