POPULAR London-based musician, Amy Steele, has expressed that she prefers experimenting with her music than having to create her catalogues within the confines of contemporary pop music.
The young chanteuse, who just recently also completed her training as a medical doctor, said her fans should expect more up-tempo music as opposed to the sombre pop-soul fusions that coloured her last releases.
“I think my music doesn’t fit squarely into a genre. It’s under the umbrella of pop but has soul influences, electronic influences, alternative influences and my new music is still under that but also has afrobeats percussion,” she said. “My forthcoming music is more rhythmic, I’ve been experimenting with more layers of percussion and the sound is more dynamic. Some of my previous tracks were more atmospheric and lighter, whereas the new music is fuller. I just do what comes naturally, rather than trying to fit into a mould and that way I feel when I create I can stay authentic.”
In the last few years, Amy rose to popularity with a series of covers that addressed important messages for the times, including ‘Slow Up,’ a track reminding us to stay positive and true to ourselves amidst social injustice. Her Drake cover, ’44 22,’ metaphorically explored the concept of unfulfilled promises and the human struggle to meet expectations.
From her debut EP, Memories In Watercolour, to her last project, Smoke Castles, Amy Steele’s music, has continued to garner positive acclaim within the English and American media circles, including BBC Radio, Kiss FM, Rinse, and prominent media outlets including Clash, Hunger, Wonderland Magazine, Echoes Magazine, The Voice Newspaper, All Hip Hop, Singersroom, Link Up TV, This Is RnB, and UKF.
With all eyes anticipating her comeback record, the 29-year-old singer continues to glide across the scene with her distinctive eclectic fusions, as well as her charm and authenticity.
