jack howard, catherine mcquade & rosie westbrook – triple album launch! – sat 19 nov 2022

“Jack Howard has been described as “one of the great quiet achievers of Australian music”. On Nov 19 at MEMO, Jack will launch his new record, the beats and brass-driven Lightheavyweight 2, with an expansive live line-up featuring a couple of Jack’s Hunters & Collectors pals, James Cobbin Lee from the brilliant Black Cab, Paul Williamson on sax and Jack’s own wonderful band of Long Lost Brothers & Sisters.

Expect dark propulsive grooves, rich melodic horns and sumptuous big screen visuals.

In an exciting development, Jack will be joined by two other great quiet achievers launching their own new albums. Catherine McQuade will be launching her second album Kiss Him Goodbye and Rosie Westbrook her new record Always The Sea, in what is shaping up as a very special triple album launch.

With a pedigree which includes playing bass with iconic post punk group The Ears and Deckchairs Overboard, Catherine McQuade returned to Melbourne after a long exile in Sydney and released her first solo album Perfect Storm in 2018. Catherine’s cinematic sound features lush orchestrations, darkly intimate lyrics, and an aching melancholy often described as a potential Bond theme. After picking up 14 International awards for her film score for the half hour crime thriller, The Widow, Catherine will launch her 2nd album Kiss Him Goodbye at MEMO. Dave Graney and Clare Moore will also be making a guest appearance.

Rosie Westbrook has been the go-to bass player to the stars but is also a brilliant solo guitarist & composer of soundscapes for film & television. She is renowned for creating music that is hauntingly evocative, spacious and inherently cinematic.  Rosie is launching her third solo album Always the Sea – ethereal, hypnotic & meticulously structured musical narratives, created from a rich palette of sounds plucked and bowed on her trademark double bass and ringing guitars.  For the launch at MEMO, Rosie will be joined by John Phillips, renowned for the incandescent guitar sounds of legendary Australian band, Not Drowning, Waving.”

Don’t miss this very special triple album launch, featuring some of Australia’s finest musicians and sumptuous big screen visuals.”
