Dalicados (Are back baby!)

To quote Bruce Springsteen, “The best music… is essentially there to provide you something to face the world with”, a philosophy which saw the birth of Melbourne-based soulful rock band Dalicados, who launched their debut album, NEVERMORE at the end of 2020.

After enduring the disruptions of Covid lockdowns during 2020 & 2021, Dalicados faced another challenge as remarkable songsmith James Lomas lead vocalist and guitarist, was diagnosed with a rare auto immune condition called Goodpastures’ Syndrome which destroyed his kidney function in 10 days and meant he was on dialysis for the next two and a half years waiting for a kidney transplant.

This condition put a kybosh on live performances until another Dalicados member was screened to be an ideal kidney donor; James’ wife, Fiona Lee Maynard.

Supporting their friends through this process, Dalicados waited patiently, with collective positivity, eager to return to playing live music together again. Supporting on the night is Kim Volkman (solo).

The Songs Of Elvis Costello

VICTOR STRANGES & THE FUTURISTS will be playing a matinee show of ELVIS COSTELLO hits and obscurities at George Lane on Sunday 8th October.

The performance is not a costume changing tribute show, rather an affirmation of The Futurists’ love for the songs of Costello. The 4-piece band will play two sets totalling 90 minutes drawing from Costello’s first 20 years of making records from My Aim Is True (1977) to All This Useless Beauty (1996).

Baby Animals founding member, Dave Leslie, will be joining the band on bass guitar, along with original Futurists members, Frank Scalzo (drums) and Mike Dupp (keyboards). Playing the radio songs to the more unknown album tracks, this is the ultimate combination for the die-hard Elvis Costello fan. Special Guest performance is from Melbourne singer-songwriter, Peter Freebairn.

Songs From Mermaid Avenue

(George Lane Matinee Sessions)

Songs from Mermaid Avenue celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic album by Billy Bragg and Wilco, which set new music to previously unheard lyrics by seminal folk icon Woody Guthrie. Mermaid Avenue provided an intriguing glimpse behind the earnest fascist-bashing folkie persona of Guthrie, revealing him to be a joker, lover, boozer and – dare we say – horndog, and spawned the classics ‘California Stars’ and ‘Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key’.

“I can highly recommend a night spent listening to these wonderful local musicians interpret some classic tunes from Mermaid Avenue. A heart-warming and rousing time was had … combined with spontaneous singalongs which added to the magic of an excellent evening.” – Myles O’Neil-Shaw (PBS FM – 5 ft High & Rising)

Performed by Michael Burrows, Craig Kelly, Bek Chapman, Damian Cafarella, Stirling Gill-Chambers.
