SheaMoisture is proud to announce the finalists for the 2024 SheaChangemakers competition, an annual campaign dedicated to celebrating and empowering Melanin Rich and First Nations women who are making a positive impact in their communities. This remarkable initiative invites nominations of outstanding changemakers who are championing causes and creating transformative change.

Now, it’s up to the public to determine the ultimate winner of the #SheaChangemaker of the year award. Voters are encouraged to visit the competition’s website, where they can explore the profiles of each finalist and learn more about the incredible work they’ve been doing to make a difference.

The 2024 VIC SheaMoisture SheaChangemaker Finalists for 2024 include:

Karinda Eggington: I have worked for the last almost 10 years in First Nations youth social and emotional wellbeing supporting young people in youth justice, school and mental health care. The last 7 years of my work has centred on creating systemic change.

Bittersweet Podcast: The Bittersweet podcast has created change by organising community events uniting women in pursuit of various passions, be it corporate or creative, while advocating for representation of people of colour in media spaces.

Kee’ahn Bindol: My wonderful friend Kee’ahn is a a Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal, Wurrunu, Badu Islander. She is a songwriter, musician and inspiration to many. Constantly speaking up and fighting for first nations people everywhere.

Anucia De Boer: Anucia has supported countless small businesses within her local community, particularly female-owned, queer and BIPOC owned businesses, by giving them the confidence, skills, knowledge and business strategy to catapult their businesses forward.

Esther – No Ordinary Love Productions: In 2021, Esther took a big leap and started a production company in order to tell stories with people of colour as the leads, not just the supporting act. And also to create jobs for creatives of colour both on screen and behind the camera.

Tigist Kebede and Nasalifya Namwinga – Pola practice: Nasalifya, a clinical psychologist, and Tigist, a trauma counsellor, independently are dynamic and highly qualified Black women, but together created a legacy named Pola Practice; a mental health service breaks cultural and systemic barriers.

Apryl Day – The Dhadjowa Foundation: Helped start a national grassroots organisation to provide strategic and culturally appropriate support for First Nation families whose loved ones have died in custody after her mother passed away from custody.

Voting is open now and individuals can vote for as many nominees as they like, but only once for each candidate. The winner of the competition will be awarded a $10,000 grant, while five runners-up will each receive a $2,000 grant to further support their endeavours. The voting period is open until February 29, 2024, at 11:59 PM AEST.

Mick Pacholli

Mick created TAGG - The Alternative Gig Guide in 1979 with Helmut Katterl, the world's first real Street Magazine. He had been involved with his fathers publishing business, Toorak Times and associated publications since 1972.  Mick was also involved in Melbourne's music scene for a number of years opening venues, discovering and managing bands and providing information and support for the industry. Mick has also created a number of local festivals and is involved in not for profit and supporting local charities.
