The 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival is serving a feast of Blak excellence this October with our biggest Deadly Fringe program ever. A packed program includes four new Deadly Fringe commissions and exceptional new First Nations storytelling.

Exploring concepts of time – past, present and future – First Nations-led work appears across the breadth of the Festival in all artforms, from immersive work to theatre, circus, drag, visual art, music and work for children. This year’s Deadly Fringe program is not to be missed.

More Deadly Fringe Highlights

A dark theatre space where the floor is illuminated in pale blue light with white geometric stripes. Two performers stand in the right-hand side of the frame, wearing white shorts and singlets with a red Indigenous motif. One performer is lying with their stomach flat on the others’ back. Their chest is lifted, and their arms are outstretched as if they are flying.

Deadly Fringe Events for Kids

Children are invited to explore, play and dance with the performers in Saltbush, an immersive and interactive journey through Australia’s First Nations culture.
Ardna: Our Land uses Indigenous and Middle Eastern dance, songs and storytelling to explore our connection to physical land. RECKONING: Future Ancestors sees First Nations artists combine personal stories of their ancestors with original song writing to explore the power of connecting to their Indigenous bloodlines.
