Bewitch your Halloween with new rock sensation, SEAWITCH, featuring real life Witch, FIONA HORNE (formerly lead singer of 90’s faves, Def FX) and guitarist Dave (Spiff) Hopkins of surf punk legends, HELLMENN.

SEAWITCH hail from the Wild West of Oz and this is their maiden voyage East to launch their debut album ‘WELL OF SPELLS’ (Cheersquad Records), a web of heavy rock, strewn with spells and enchantments, anchored with catchy fuzz feels and intoxicating salty stoner riffs.

Online music magazine, Around the Sound, sums up the enchantment of Seawitch“The members of Seawitch, including frontwoman, FIONA HORNE, have all been there done that, so they have no expectations to live up to, no fucks left to give. That can go one of two ways: you can either phone it in while you struggle to pay off your 90s coke debt or you can just let rip and sound like a band that’s having the most fun they’ve ever had. Seawitch kick out the jams while playing maximum R&B. It’s stoner rock at its sweaty, shirts-off best and, right now, I don’t think there are any bands anywhere in the world that could do what Seawitch do.”  – Andrea Thompson

Joining SEAWITCH at their HALLOWEEN ROCK’N’ROLL BALL are:

HOSS:  Since 1989, HOSS have been dipping into the eternally bubbling ROCKPOT and ladling out potent little cups of the good stuff to the precious few. That’s You! Despite their lack of flamboyance and ever diminishing mobility, HOSS just seem to sit there and get better and better. Can’t help it! Welcoming magnificent new drummer Cris Wilson (ex- Warped), HOSS plan to warm and excite you this Hallow’s Eve.

ELECTRIC PURRS: These four un-neutered Melbourne pests, spray fast, upbeat garage punk. After dropping their 2021 EP, Hot Chaps, Electric Purrs are quickly getting their name around town with a loud, punchy, rock n roll set that’s sure to get your hips shakin’. For a good time, like the Witch’s cat, get Familiar with this gorgeous gang of raunch and sorcery.

DJ JANE GAZZO:  High Priestess of Music Culture, Jane Gazzo will be spinning the best rockin’ spooky tunes to shake your bones to. Jane’s bewitching broadcasting career began at the age of 16 at Melbourne radio station 3RRR-FM. She then went on to present nationally on Triple J and became a popular name in the 1990’s co-hosting ABC-TV cult TV show Recovery (where she interviewed Fiona Horne in her original band Def FX!) Since then, she has conquered the airwaves of the US and UK, returning home to Oz in 2007 and firmly establishing herself as a pop music culture icon, with stints at Triple M, best-selling books and in-demand personal appearances. She is the co-founder of the Facebook group, Sound As Ever, Australian Indie 1990-1999 with over 20,000 members uniting to celebrate the best of 90’s music – expect to hear a lot of it at the Ball! – and has recently co-authored along with Andrew P Street the new book Sound As Ever: A Celebration of the Greatest Decade in Australian Music (1990-1999)

“‘Witches Forever’ came about with Fiona and me locked in iso and writing a song a day. We’d never written together before and found ourselves caressing each other’s talents, with me adding some vocal ideas and her giving me instructions on how to make guitar riffs different and more original with timings. I watched a doco on Jimmy Page and how he created ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in his head before the studio, and I was thinking I would like to do something like that, that could start off acoustic and classic then turn into a thundering Fu Manchu V8 riff. After the intro, ‘Witches Forever’ moves into Neil Young territory, then cranks up a notch into Joy Division for the verses with some sonic mayhem and blistering outro. Definitely showing some 70s influences. It certainly didn’t get close to Stairway, but we weaved together some magic tones.” – Dave (Spiff) Hopkins

“Writing songs with Spiff is exciting. We sit and create from scratch, and together end up doing something that neither of us would have done individually, influencing each other to try different and unfamiliar things. My favourite lyric in ‘Witches Forever’ is the second verse – ‘Dressed in holy flames, the rope now spells my name.’ As I wrote, I was thinking about the Witches who were hung and burned to death in ages past. ‘Standing in the wind and rain, I feel no shame – my soul is born again.’ I had a vision of me standing naked on a hill – with flames at my feet and a rope around my neck, but I was dancing in the fire and I took the rope from around my neck and wove it through the air, so that it spelled my name. I took back my power and felt grateful for all the women who suffered but built the foundation upon which we modern Witches can live free and practice our Craft, we are Witches together forever.”  Fiona Horne

The video for “Witches Forever” was filmed live at the Winter Solstice ‘Witches Ball’ which took place at The Rechabite, Perth, Western Australia. It was produced and edited by Simple Ben Films.

Seawitch’s debut album Well of Spells is out October 21 2022
