Dear Bluesfesters,

I hope you feel as we do about the Bluesfest line-up.

Not only is it one of our best bills in the festival’s history, I believe it is the festival bill of the season.

Sticky Fingers will be playing one of their all-too-rare shows in Australia. They have only played a handful in our country in the last five years, and Bluesfest is happy to welcome them back after eight years.

Sampa the Great has been truly discovered on a worldwide basis. She plays major festivals these days, including Glastonbury, Coachella, Primavera, Lollapalooza and Newport Jazz Festival. Now for the first time, she’ll be appearing at Bluesfest on Easter Saturday.

A Sampa the Great show is full of surprises, incredible dancing, and she isn’t afraid to walk the walk. I can’t wait to meet her!

The first time I saw The Heartfelt Tribute to Uncle Archie in association with The Archie Roach Foundation at the Woodford Folk Festival, there was a standing ovation for this incredible outpouring of love. The whole room was crying, it was incredibly emotional, and I am so proud to have this Tribute at Bluesfest.

FOOLS and Jerome Williams will also be great shows. So many artists, such little time!

STICKY FINGERS PLAYING BLUESFEST SATURDAY

Music illuminates even the darkest moments. A song lets in a sliver of light when you need it the most. It doesn’t matter how dark it gets out there; we’ve got Sticky Fingers. Theirs is an underdog story already worthy of a tell-all memoir. The quintet accomplished the seemingly impossible as a wholly independent act since 2008.

Affirmed as one of Australia’s biggest bands, they’ve delivered three straight Top 5 albums, earned ARIA platinum and gold plaques, eclipsed 1 billion streams, and sold out the continent’s most hallowed venues, usually reserved for the likes of Elton John and Post Malone.  Check them out below!

Multi-Grammy-winning R&B artist Robert Glasper will perform at The Metro, Sydney, on Thursday, 6 April 2023performing with an electric band featuring Justin Tyson (drums), Burniss Travis (bass) and DJ Jahi Sundance.

The 12-time nominated, 5-time Grammy® award winner recently performed a record 30-night stand at the world-famous Jazz venue, The Blue Note in New York. The only other artists to have ever achieved this are Chick Corea and Dizzy Gillespie.

Glasper is also the only artist ever to have an album release in the top 10 of 4 album charts on Billboard simultaneously. Two years later, he did it again.

MARCUS KING is one of the fastest-rising artists. His ‘sold out’ first Australian tour in 2019, as well as the Covid-cancelled 2020 tour with its larger venues, only confirmed this. He returns for his second visit to Australia for Bluesfest Touring in April 2023.  At 26 years of age, with a GRAMMY-nominated debut album under his belt, produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, he is showing maturity far beyond his years. Marcus King is a ‘KING’ of unparalleled performance prowess with a dynamic live show, switching from swaggering rock to supersonic soul.

VINTAGE TROUBLE Since forming in 2010, Vintage Trouble has become rock ‘n’ roll’s best-kept secret. Distilling swaggering rock, soulful blues, R&B grooves, and pop ambition into a bold and brash brew, the quartet have logged 3,000 shows across 30 countries on tour with divinities such as The Who, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Lenny Kravitz, and Bon Jovi, to name a few.
