London-based rising artist Alysha embraces a darker side of her artistry on ‘Take It or Leave It’, a brooding fusion of goth, new-wave and electronic influences. Driven by shadowy synths and atmospheric textures, the track marks a confident step into a more alternative, nocturnal sound, exploring faith, temptation and personal boundaries through an unconventional lens.
Co-produced with Matt Rist, the song deliberately places Christian themes within a world far removed from traditional gospel. “I wanted to write a Goth/Electronic song about my faith which alternative people can also enjoy rather than the usual Gospel, R&B or Country you get with Christianity,” Alysha explains.
References to 666 add a provocative edge, challenging expectations while encouraging listeners to look beyond familiar interpretations of spirituality. At its core, Alysha describes it simply as “an Alternative genre song talking about God.”
That genre-blurring approach reflects Alysha’s wider musical evolution. The Cuban-Indian artist, raised in St John’s Wood, London, grew up influenced by artists ranging from Joss Stone, Beyoncé and Lauryn Hill to Siouxsie & The Banshees, alongside church gospel. After beginning to write music at 10, she released her debut single ‘David Attenborough’ at 16, followed by the 2020 EP ‘Midnight Rendezvous’. A creative rebrand in 2023 ushered in a more mature direction, with tracks including ‘Lord, Help Me’ and ‘Finer Things’ helping to expand her growing audience.
With more than three million Spotify streams, performances at Wild Paths and Forwards Festival, and a forthcoming LANY support run across Japan and South Korea, Alysha is entering an increasingly ambitious chapter. ‘Take It or Leave It’ captures an artist unafraid to challenge genre conventions or expectations, bringing together darkness and spirituality to create something distinctly her own. With further new music and a potential EP on the horizon, Alysha’s latest release suggests there is plenty more to come.
