I committed a mortal sin last Saturday night when I opened this wine.
From the second I twisted the cap the perfume filled my nostrils with an amazing nose full of jammy red and black currants ripe plumb and rich dark chocolate, espresso coffee you name it, it was all in this bottle.
Truly I knew full well I should not have opened it. In all honesty, I was not really looking for a big wine. It was almost overwhelming with a full fruit kick in the mouth.
There was nothing I could do except put the cap back on and curse myself, as I sipped slowly on a rich way to powerful nightcap, – an alcoholic drink one has at the end of a very festive evening.
Even after 24 hours, the wine was still rather fruit-forward and bold for the first 10 to 15 minutes, before some tobacco and leather joined the party, the wine is still rather Intense, in fact, it has developed a little kitchen spice overnight that was not there the night before.
Now opening to a long dry finish with lush fruit tannins niggling along the sides of the plate.
The only advice I can give; Is if you are going to have an alcoholic drink at the end of a far too festive evening. Be smart and choose a bottle before you go out and set it aside.
Don’t look in the cellar and choose the first bottle that presents itself.
I never gave food a second thought…
