We are truly lucky in that we get to spend time on this wonderful planet for a number of decades but the reality of life is that with it, comes death. We get older as the years roll by, but there is nothing to say that you just have to sit back and accept it. There are a number of lifestyle changes that you can make to keep yourself looking younger for much longer and it doesn’t take a great deal of effort on your part to make it happen. You might need to change up your diet a little and become more active, but the good news is that it is achievable.
Thankfully, we can always turn to technology like RF needling that can help us to keep those wrinkles and lines away for longer on our faces and especially around the eyes. Technology is a wonderful thing and it should be able to help us to keep our youthful looks for a longer period of time, but the following are some of the other top ways to keep yourself looking younger for longer here in Australia.
- Less sun is better – Many Australians feel that it is appropriate to have tanned skin because it makes them look healthy. The unfortunate thing about spending too much time in the sun is that it can really damage your skin and you end up looking much older than you actually are. We do need a certain amount of vitamin D to keep our immune systems strong but you only need around 10 minutes in direct sunlight to get what you need. For all other times, wear a wide-brimmed hat, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and always apply sunscreen throughout the day.
- Keep yourself hydrated – We don’t drink enough water every single day and the first thing that you will notice is your skin looking tired as a direct result. Our medical practitioners tell us that we should be trying to drink at least 7 to 8 glasses of water every single day, but it does get hot here in Australia, so try drinking a few extra glasses.
- Get a good night’s sleep – Sleep is incredibly important for your skin and if you’re getting quality sleep every single night, then it will keep you looking younger for much longer. This also provides you with the perfect time to set up a skincare routine every night before you go to bed. There are many top-class moisturisers out there for both men and women to apply.
- Improve your diet – We all eat far too much fast food and high sugar drinks here in Australia. You need to start incorporating more fruit and vegetables into your diet every single day and this is not only good for the inside of your body but for the outside as well. These essential foods contain the nutrition and vitamins that your skin needs to keep its elasticity and keep you looking younger than you actually are.
- Start becoming more active – If you work the normal 9-to-5 job and you are exhausted when you get home in the evenings, you need to get yourself out of the habit of falling into an armchair to watch your favourite TV shows. Either get up early in the morning and do some exercise, or do it in the evenings after work. Engaging in exercise on a regular basis helps get the heart pumping and the blood flowing. This same blood flow moves oxygen around your body straight to your skin and this helps to make you look more youthful.
- Cut down on alcohol consumption – It is true that we love a beer or three on the weekends, but now is the time to start trying to cut back a little. Stop keeping beer in your fridge because you get into the habit of just reaching in and taking one every single day. Like everything in life, everything in moderation can be good for you, but drinking too much alcohol can make you age before your time.
It is never too early to start taking better care of your skin and if you are only in your 20s, then start today. It is never too late, however, to begin taking better care of your skin, so follow the above pieces of advice and try to turn back the hands of time when it comes to the ageing process and staying here longer.
