Ivy League Records are excited to announce the long-awaited vinyl re-press of The Rubens self-titled debut LP, The Rubens, out on Friday Sept 9, almost ten-years to the day of the original release. The limited edition pressing from the band – who after a decade, are at the top of their game – will include a 180g, purple & white marbled vinyl, featuring all tracks from their ground-breaking debut including beloved favourites ‘Lay It Down’, ‘My Gun’ and ‘The Best We Got’. The band will also release an exclusive line of ‘Still Laying It Down’ merchandise, featuring their very first Rubens logo and a design playing on the album cover’s iconic flower bomb.
 
The Rubens will celebrate in the most epic of ways by hosting their own festival Valleyways in their hometown of Camden (Sat Sept 10), with a stellar lineup including Middle Kids, Skeggs, Spiderbait, Slowly Slowly and of course, the hometown heroes themselves.

Part of the celebrations include a collaboration with boutique distillery Mountain Gin! Taking inspiration from The Rubens first album and some familiar botanicals from their Camden home, The Rubens and MOUNTAIN distilling have come together to create the perfect Gin, using the iconic album artwork on the bottle. Fans can get their hands on the exclusive drop from HERE!
 
The Rubens burst onto the scene when they uploaded their first song, ‘Lay It Down’ to triple j unearthed, that was welcomed by an overwhelming number of 4-5 star reviews. Unbeknownst to them at the time, this would signal the start of an incredible career, including their first album The Rubens debuting at #3 on the ARIA chart and reaching platinum sales. Their following three albums also landed in the top 3, with their most recent release, 2021’s 0202 coming in at #1. The Rubens also took out the #1 spot of triple j’s Hottest 100 with ‘Hoops’ and have four multi-platinum and four gold singles to their name, with hits such as ‘Live In Life’‘Never Ever (feat. Sarah)’‘God Forgot’ and ‘Masterpiece’. The band have sold-out countless national tours at venues including the Hordern Pavilion and Margaret Court Arena, toured internationally and embarked on a 42-date Australian Arena tour supporting megastar P!NK.
 
The vinyl release of The Rubens comes off the back of the band touring virtually non-stop amidst the challenges of a pandemic and selling over 23,000 tickets, in celebration of their fourth album 0202.
 
0202 was nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize (AMP), marked their first #1 record in their decade-long career. Proving to be more relevant now than ever, The Rubens boundary pushing 0202 saw the band behind the production desk for the first time – a feat that culminated in the band winning Producer of the Year at the 2021 ARIA Awards (shared with collaborator Konstantin Kersting). The record features hit singles ‘Live In Life’ (triple Platinum, ARIA Song of the Year nominee & the fourth biggest Australian song of 2020 (ARIA)), ‘Masterpiece’‘Time Of My Life’ & ‘Heavy Weather’ .

Mick created TAGG - The Alternative Gig Guide in 1979 with Helmut Katterl, the world's first real Street Magazine. He had been involved with his fathers publishing business, Toorak Times and associated publications since 1972.  Mick was also involved in Melbourne's music scene for a number of years opening venues, discovering and managing bands and providing information and support for the industry. Mick has also created a number of local festivals and is involved in not for profit and supporting local charities.
