SCION Daylight Red 2024 Durif  Rutherglen – $35.00

If you are familiar with Rutherglen Durif, you will know it as a big, full-flavoured, mouth-filling red wine, loved by those looking for a wine with body, tannins and a big personality.
Made for thick steaks and slow-cooked meat dishes, all with equally big flavours.
The winemaker Rowly Milhinch has certainly redesigned Rutherglen Durif with his Daylight Red.  A lot of thought has gone into making this easy-drinking, fun wine.
Handpicked fruit offering the fragrant spice of strawberry and the aromas of red fruit. Racey red fruit flavours of cherry and raspberry, with a herbal hint mid-palate.
Do not underestimate the serious side of this wine. I went to a BYO Greek restaurant on Sunday and enjoyed it with some of the best slow-cooked, herbed Greek lamb I have ever tasted, and I can’t believe how fantastic the pairing was. The meat fell from the bone as the bright cherry acid just evolved in the mouth and melted into the lamb. The tannins in the wine cut through the juicy meat, adding zing to every bite.
This is a different twist on Rutherglen Durif, in a light-hearted style. – It’s about time someone broke the mould!
