galli – est – lroenzo (shiraz) – (syrah) 2016

$59.00

The 2016 rates higher in a comparison to other vintages of the Lorenzo GALLI EST Heathcote Shiraz.

Now before I go any further, I need to make a statement about the use of Syrah as opposed to Shiraz when describing this wine.

I have seen articles, advertising GALLI – EST – LROENZO as a Syrah, I personally find this confusing as for me a Syrah is French, and is best described as soft and gentle or (Feminine).

Whereas for me the 2016 Lroenzo is anything but soft and gentle or (Feminine) it is best described as (masculine) as It is rich and intense and rather powerful wine, thus I myself would call it a Shiraz!

And further more to the point, it will do 15 to 20 years in the cellar easy peasy!

That said, the wine was Wild-fermented with 75% whole bunches, 25+ days on skins, and was matured for one and a half years in 40% new oak. Now that is not a feminine wine, I personally think it’s got balls.

The result is a rather black-coloured wine with all the trimmings, Ripe red juicy berries, saddle leather, and spicy earthy flavours, at the end of the day the wine has elegance and a soft quality about it for a big Shiraz.  And for me, that does not make it a (Syrah) by any stretch of the imagination!

Just another well-made Heathcote Shiraz, that like many from that area should not be opened under 10 years of age.

I enjoyed this wine with a thick T Bone steak cut from a beast that has been hanging for 6 weeks and was a little black around the edges and just melted in your mouth.

The wine was a good match for the flavour of a thick T Bone served with baked potatoes and green beans in a red wine and truffle oil reduction.
