Talk: Bethan Laura Wood hosted by Simone LeAmon

December 3, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm AEDT

FREE EVENT, NO BOOKING REQUIRED
As the second recipient of the annual, five-year commission series, M-POWER, made possible by a significant contribution from MECCA’s social change program, British multidisciplinary designer Bethan Laura Wood presents a new installation as part of NGV Triennial. Wood’s installation examines the gender-related aspects of historical methods of acquiring and disseminating knowledge.
NGV Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture Simone LeAmon leads a conversation with Bethan Laura Wood about her work, which encompasses a wide range of elements including textiles, furniture and scenography.
About the speakers
Bethan Laura Wood’s radical approach to materiality, colour, and pattern has garnered a cult following. Fascinated with the cultural and historical significance of surface design and colour in domestic space and the interior, she explores unlikely combinations of colour and shape, developing unique timber veneers, material composites and textiles for furniture, lighting, objects, installations, and accessories. Wood has presented work at Design Miami, Victoria and Albert Museum and Sketch, London; and has works held in permanent collections including The Art Institute of Chicago, SFMOMA and Victoria and Albert Museum.
Simone LeAmon is the Hugh Williamson Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture at the National Gallery of Victoria.
