(Sat, May 4) BLACKBIRDS F.C. (Single Launch)

May 4 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm AEST

Blackbirds F.C. play their own brand of alt. country rock inspired by the Go-Betweens, Paul Kelly, The Church, and XTC. Blackbirds return to George Lane to launch a new single ‘Rings Around the Sun’ from their upcoming third album. With support from Billy Baxter and Gina from the Hollowmen playing their first gig in 15 years and Edie and Sarah making their debut.

Featuring members of The Hollowmen, Helvelln, and the Vanda’s, Blackbirds FC formed in 2017, and released the Life Sciences EP in 2018 followed by their debut album Field Recordings in 2019. In late 2022, the band released it’s sophomore LP Magiclands with community radio airplay across the country, a sold out launch and making it to #7 on the Australian Independent Records Labels Album Chart, their first top ten foray. Now the band are back at work on a third long player due out later in 2024.

Relaxed without reclining, romantic without being soppy, old fashioned without any sense of the archaic, Magiclands is the kind of record that even if you were to look hard for reasons to dislike it you would be hard pressed to find any. It has tunes, it has a finely balanced interplay between its male/female voices, it is smart where you want it to be.
Bernard Zuel (Sydney Morning Herald)
“The themes of ‘Magiclands’ perfectly capture a perfect elision between memories and the comfort they bring, and the anxieties of our current reality with nature and the environment a palimpsest for our anxieties and insecurities. And Blackbirds F.C. deliver it in such a perfectly beautiful package with gentle strings providing a comforting sweep under the crystalline guitars and vaulting melodies. This is gloriously epic material. 8.5 out of 10”
Arun Kendall (Backseat Mafia)
