Hello,

The Colder team are transforming the theatre as we speak. I can’t imagine a more stark aesthetic contrast to the colourful clutter of Hir. One of the many joys of a diverse season of work is discovering how our little space can be endlessly reimagined through the vision of our talented creatives.

I saw a rehearsal run of Colder late last week. Lachlan Philpott’s poetic, affecting play packs a punch. It gets under your skin. Colder marks Alyson Campbell’s welcome return to Red Stitch (previously Alyson directed Fewer Emergencies, The Day Room and 4:48 Psychosis.) Here are some of her thoughts on directing Colder:

“Lachlan and I have worked together for almost 20 years, and I am still thrilled by the way that his writing works…words create rich images, conjuring up worlds in the most succinct way to convey the detail of a place or moment but, above all, to produce the feeling of being in this world…

…it requires truly ensemble work: actors, designers and technicians are all needed to be absolutely in tune with each other and then, when it works, the ripples and waves of tiny individual movements and choices spread out, echo and resonate in a way that is so much more than the sum of any of its parts.”

Colder previews 13 – 16 March and opens next Saturday, running until April 8.
