$100.00
I opened this 20 hour beforehand to let breath, took a glass to taste the wine and put the cork back in the hole as quickly as possible.
In the glass:
The wine is a little murky in colour with a reddish hue.
Overnight the wine has opened up to reveal a wine of Medium body with good crunchy acidity. Finishing dry and dusty on the palate, there is a little fruit with hints of tobacco leaf, but at the end of the day it fills the mouth with this wonderful fruit acid and not a lot more, other than that.
Don’t get me wrong I am enjoying it however it really needs food to bring out the best in this wine.
And to point out, at $100.00 I was expecting a lot more from this bottle of Pomerol. Maybe at 9 years, it has dried out a little?
I did enjoy the wine with a meal of;
Milk braised pork pie with Cos lettuce & pickled beetroot salad and a White Truffle gravy.
The acids cut through the dense mushroom & milk curds that flavoured the pie, which I might add was wonderful and worked with the pickled beetroot and crisp Cos lettuce.
P.S. I got this wine at BWS, then I spotted it at Dan’s for $80.00 and then online for $60.00
So it pays to shop around, as the so-called cheaper stores ain’t that cheap after all!!!
