Just in case you forgot, 2010 in the Barossa Valley produced some stunning reds. This Rocland Estate Chocolate Box Shiraz at the mid-price range of their wines.
The 2010 high end Barossa Valley wines in the $500.00 plus price range still have decades ahead of them and so they should!
So back to this little wonder – Dark red in the glass, not fading at all just getting a little deeper if anything.
This Shiraz is 13 years old and still displaying good acid mid palate with dusty dark fruit at the fore. There is clear age showing on the palate with a little spice coming through flowed by hints of white pepper that flits around in your plate and begins a new Love affair with this rich old Shiraz.
I enjoyed this wine with a juicy T-bone steak with thinly sliced potatoes dotted with black truffle baked in a light garlic cream, the potatoes just browning around the edges.
The wonderful truffle perfume wafted from the plate blending with the wine creating a grand finish to the afternoon.
