The Hold Steady announce Melbourne Weekender shows for 2024
Celebrating 20 incredible years
Bringing their first Weekender to Melbourne in 2022, Brooklyn-based The Hold Steady are heading back for another run in 2024. Celebrating 20 years of incredible music, fans will have three exclusive opportunities to witness the band’s incredible discography with two shows at The Croxton Bandroom and a more intimate night at Stay Gold in May 2024.
“The Hold Steady came to Australia after our first album and ever since, we’ve had an amazing time playing there. The Australian THS audiences are some of the most fun we’ve encountered. Very excited to be back in 2024” – Craig Finn
Earlier this year, The Hold Steady released their ninth studio album, The Price of Progress. Hailed by Pitchfork as “vivid and weird: a celebration of second winds, unlikely comebacks, and undying rock’n’roll dreams,” the album further cements the bands enduring status as timeless indie legends after 20 years. Known for their massive choruses, sharp hooks and novelist lyricism, The Hold Steady have carved a niche in the music industry that remains unmatched.
Formed in 2003, The Hold Steady have earned countless accolades across two decades of relentless touring and recording, climbing the charts time and time again whilst playing over a 1000 shows throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. Scoring their first Billboard Top 10 placement with 2021 album Open Door Policy, the six piece continue to prove themselves as an ever-evolving force unafraid to explore the unknown. Champions for the lost and broken-hearted, The Hold Steady have always stayed true to their evocative story-telling and detailed song craft.
In May, Aussie fans are in for another unforgettable weekend of transcendent modern rock excellence. Blending rock classicism with their unique brand of indie and punk, don’t miss your chance to catch The Hold Steady in Melbourne for three exclusive performances.

Body Maintenance / Dark Water / Armour / It Thing
The Tote Hotel, Collingwood
Friday 24th of May
7:30pm – $20+bf
Body Maintenance return to the Tote band room for their first show of 2024, breaking a short hiatus which followed their warmly received tour of Europe and the UK last year. The Narrm/Melbourne group will be performing their tried and tested live set with the introduction of newer songs from a forthcoming LP out in later this year. Body Maintenance compounds the stark characteristics of goth with an overarching pop familiarity of new wave. Merging tension and ethereal delicacy, the latest batch of songs from Beside You explores both the bleak and dreamy aspects of 80s post punk with heavy nods to The Comsat Angels, The Chameleons and Echo & The Bunnymen. Joining BM on the night will be Melbourne’s premier goth/dark-wave act Dark Water, the incredible local garage/proto-punk outfit It Thing along with Armour, a freshly formed post punk supergroup featuring members of Bloodletter, Pleasure Symbols, Nylex etc. Not to be missed!
