London art-rock five-piece Black Bordello return with their most expansive and theatrical release to date, unveiling new EP Midheaven Tempest on September 18th, 2026.
Fronted by Sienna Bordello, Black Bordello have built a world where theatre, darkness and rock collide. Their latest release pushes that vision further, blending gothic rock, post-punk, psychedelia, trip-hop, industrial textures and avant-garde experimentation into something that feels both cinematic and unpredictable.
Sienna’s vocals shift effortlessly from ethereal soprano to guttural confrontation, while the band’s arrangements create a strange, immersive landscape of characters, rituals and fractured worlds.
Produced by Balazs Altsach, Midheaven Tempest sees the band stretch well beyond conventional alternative rock. Distorted guitars sit alongside sweeping arrangements and psychedelic passages, while trip-hop rhythms and theatrical melodies constantly pull the songs in unexpected directions.
Opening track ‘Fugue’ sets the tone, combining gothic and experimental rock with Hammond organ, baroque flourishes and tense post-punk energy. Elsewhere, ‘Numb-Lock’ moves between trip-hop, theatrical rock and romantic balladry, while ‘Daddy’ embraces psychedelic intensity and unpredictable shifts in tempo and texture.
The EP reaches its explosive conclusion with ‘Mechanical Dancer’, bringing together the record’s sense of drama, scale and restless experimentation.
There is a darker idea running underneath the spectacle, too. Midheaven Tempest explores the strange absurdity of being alive — characters caught within systems they can see but cannot quite escape. There is humour within the darkness, romance within decay and beauty within collapse.
That theatricality has become central to Black Bordello’s live identity. Since forming in the aftermath of the pandemic, the band have played venues including Electric Ballroom, Dingwalls, MOTH Club and The Lexington, while sharing stages with The Libertines, Pete Doherty, Goat Girl, Fat Dog, Bad Nerves and Pretty Sick.
With members from South East London, Hong Kong and Bulgaria, and Sienna’s Middle Eastern and Mediterranean heritage adding another layer to the band’s identity, Black Bordello bring together a distinctly international perspective.
Midheaven Tempest arrives September 18th, offering another glimpse into a band that continues to exist somewhere between beauty and ugliness, glamour and grime, romance and violence.
