SNAPSHOT BIOS

THE DOOBIE BROTHERS

For over five decades, The Doobie Brothers have been known for delivering mind-blowing, roots based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock and roll. Boasting one of the most loyal fan bases in music, selling more than 48 million albums, and winning four GRAMMY® Awards, The Doobie Brothers continue to write and record new material and tour the world.

In all, the Doobies have tallied up five top 10 singles and 16 top 40 hits. Best of the Doobies has sold more than 12 million copies – a rare “diamond record.” In 2021, the band kicked off their 50th anniversary tour which reunited Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, and John McFee back on the road together for the first time in over 25 years. Catch them at Bluesfest 2023 on Easter Monday.

THE SOUL REBELS with special guests GZA from Wu-Tang Clan and Talib Kweli

Brass sensation The Soul Rebels are riding high in 2022 after receiving national attention following the release of their new album, Poetry In Motion. The eight-member collective appeared on Sony Music artist G-Eazy featuring Lil Wayne’s new single ‘When You’re Gone”, Def Jam artist Dave East and Nas’ “Godfather 4” single, Big Freedia and Icona Pop’s “Pipe That”.

Their explosive stage presence has led to live collaborations with the likes of Katy Perry, Nas, G-Eazy, DMX, Portugal. The Man, Robert Glasper, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

GZA

GZA, aka the Genius, was the most cerebral MC in the Wu-Tang Clan, as well as perhaps the most acclaimed.

But among hip-hop aficionados, GZA was revered for his flawless technique and lyrical dexterity and was considered by many to be the best pure rapper in the entire Clan.

TALIB KWELI

The Brooklyn-based MC earned his stripes as one of the most lyrically gifted, socially aware and politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last 20 years. Talib Kweli stands as one of the world’s most talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black Star or collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, or Madlib, Kweli commands attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over virtually any type of instrumental.

ROBERT GLASPER

Robert Glasper is the leader of a new sonic paradigm with a career that bridges musical and artistic genres. To date, he boasts 4 Grammy wins and 9 nominations across 11 categories.

Evolution is his hallmark. Glasper’s breakout crossover album Black Radio changed the face of the genre and set a new expectation for what popular music could be. The album won him the Grammy for best R&B album and established him as the musician of choice for some of the world’s most iconic artists; notably playing keys throughout Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, winning another Grammy for the elastic track “These Walls”. The ongoing Black Radio series has since become Glasper’s calling card, upholding a place at the heart of a trailblazing community: from long-time sonic brothers Mos Def and Bilal to legends including Ledisi, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu.

Glasper is an artist at the heart of a moment – and a movement – to champion Black music, Black people, and the possibility of a better future.

ALLISON RUSSELL special guest for Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit

Poet, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, activist – Allison Russell unpacks her youth in searing detail on her tour de force debut Outside Child. She sings about deliverance and redemption, about the places, the people and realisations that helped her survive and claim her freedom. “Its an album of strength and affirmation, not victimisation,” said The New York Times in their profile on Russell, and has named Outside Child the #2 Best Album of 2021. Outside Child has received three Grammy award nominations in the Best Americana Album category, Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song. In addition to her three Grammy nominations, Russell has been awarded Album of the Year at the 2022 Americana Music Association Awards, four Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Polaris Music Prize and two Juno Awards. Russell is the first-ever Black artist to win a Contemporary Roots Album of the Year in Juno history.

Stop press! Allison has just won ‘Album Of The Year’ at the Americana Awards (US).

VINTAGE TROUBLE special guests for Marcus King

Since forming in 2010, Vintage Trouble have become Rock ‘n’ Roll’s go to band for superstar artists such as The Who, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Lenny Kravitz, and Bon Jovi, to name a few. Their live shows are LEGENDARY.
