Mick created TAGG - The Alternative Gig Guide in 1979 with Helmut Katterl, the world's first real Street Magazine. He had been involved with his fathers publishing business, Toorak Times and associated publications since 1972.  Mick was also involved in Melbourne's music scene for a number of years opening venues, discovering and managing bands and providing information and support for the industry. Mick has also created a number of local festivals and is involved in not for profit and supporting local charities.
I had the privilege of attending the Wandilla Gippsland staff and stakeholders’ lunch on Sunday, November 24th.
Hosted by the Wandilla Gippsland team in the Big Black Shed, located high in the rolling hills of Leongatha at the base of the Strzelecki Ranges. The property has postcard views looking over the vineyard. At this location, it is easy to take your mind to a tranquil place where you can lose yourself for the afternoon, sipping wine and lunching on farm-reared Red Akaushi Wagyu beef, taking in the spectacular views.
The dream is to enable guests to relax and escape the stress of working life in the planned construction luxury accommodation high on the hilltop of the vineyard itself. The day was a tribute to all of the people involved in the project to date.  And to align them all to the unique aim of the Wandilla estate produce.
Wandilla Gippsland is a collective dream designed to showcase the beauty and produce that is the hallmark of the Gippsland region.
The project aims to bring to life a unique vision offering wine, beef, and dairy produce that have all been grown on a single estate.
Added to this is a goal for constant improvement in sustainability and animal welfare. Known for its rolling hills and prime dairy terroir, Gippsland is rapidly becoming recognised as a bespoke food and premium wine region. Remember, Sth Gippsland Pinot Noir is world famous;  repeat, World Famous for its Pinot Noir!
Introducing everyone present on the day to the artisan cheese makers, wine makers, craft beer brewers, ice cream makers, the list goes on, the mouthwatering flavours of Red Akaushi Wagyu beef, tender Gippsland lamb and an impressive display of charcuterie.
In a sentence, the very best produce that Gippsland has to offer.
Reinventing Sth Gippsland as a tourist destination for wine, cheese, Red Akaushi Wagyu beef, melt-in-your-mouth lamb, farm fresh air and all just one and a half hours from Melbourne CBD.
We don’t expect you to drive one and a half hours to Leongatha every time you want cheese and a bottle of wine. Soon you will be able to visit us directly as Wandilla is opening a Gippsland Meats and Providore store within The Prahran Market.
Now, this is where I come on board with The Project –
Ryan and I are the opening team representing Gippsland on a plate and in a glass.
We are bringing Gippsland to you – Melbourne.

The real highlight of the day was that we ALMOST got to taste the elusive Riesling priced at $3000.00 a bottle.

That’s cost price, not retail.  Better luck next year!
Although I won’t hold my breath.
