TAGG – ISSUE 39 excerpt…

Geelong Rock Notes

The Never Never Band by John Philips

‘Time moves slowly through December days. . .’ and so it should for the Never Never. They are enjoying the success of the release of their single ‘On the Beach’ and regular swelling crowds at their gigs in Geelong, Melbourne and the Coast. Airplay and radio interviews are forthcoming.

The Never Never’s roots are firmly Australian and the songs take a contemporary stance from a consciousness of surrounding personal experiences. Geographically there are Coastal references but there is a definite urban feel which Melbourne audiences, particularly in Carlton, are appreciative of.

There’s anger and frustration in there but there’s passion also…I checked them at the Ozone Hotel, Queenscliff recently and it was crammed to the walls with an enthusiastic crowd. The Never Never were supported by another impressive local act Spiral Scratch that did some great covers of The Cure, Members, The Jam.

Next issue we will present another release from band called Grasshopper who’ve done the traps fro quite some time. Don’t forget the big Goanna Rage at Allenvale (just past Lorne) on the Australia Day Weekend.
