The Silversound

The Silversound
The Silversound FuzzBoxGirl EP Launch at the Brunswick Ballroom on Sunday 3rd December, Matinee Show 1pm to 4pm with special guest Nick O’Mara.

The Silversound flow up their acclaimed debut album with FuzzBoxGirl a 5 Song EP displaying the breadth of their psychedelic infused music. Featuring the single FuzzBoxGirl & Hurdy Gurdy Man with Lisa Miller.

The Silversound is Shane O’Mara, Andrew Tanner, Stu Thomas & Leroy Cope: an immersive trip into the psychedelic melody-rich tradition of rock’s golden age of discovery. The Silversound A slithering juggernaut of gurgling guitars and dreamscape lyrics bubbling from Melbourne’s dark underground, The Silversound is a deep psychedelic trip in the melody-rich tradition of rock’s golden age of discovery.

Phased and funky, fuzzed-up and freaked out, the road-hardened quartet of Australian fringe identities forged their first sojourn during one of the longest, hardest lockdowns on the planet, smuggling hope and tenderness from the gloom; soaring sitars and sky bound propulsion from the depths of pandemic static. From beefy boogie to rainwater jangle, loopy acoustic echoes to woolly overdrive, The Silversound’s aquaplaning guitars and cyclical grooves will turn your dull grey matter inside out and your 21st century blues to every damn colour under the Fat Old Sun.

All masters of their craft, they coalesce in The Silversound

A SAVAGE CHRISTMAS

A SAVAGE CHRISTMAS
A Savage Christmas brings a whole new twist to a dysfunctional family Christmas lunch.

For the Savage family, Christmas day is always held at their decadent regional Queenslander Brenda Savage, a resentful and ageing-in-denial ‘WAG’ wife, and James Savage Snr, a megalomaniac ex-football legend, are empty nesters (apart from Gucci-loving poodle Bubbles).

Daughter Davina (formerly David) is their adopted middle child who came out as trans three years ago and hasn’t seen the family since. First-born Jimmy Savage Jnr is a mentally ill aspiring rapper with a gambling debt and service weapon (he’s a police officer on probation). Rounding out the disappointments is daughter Leia, a stay-at-home mum and spiritual pill-popper, married to an absent real estate developer.

Davina arrives for Christmas lunch, introducing trans boyfriend (and veterinarian) Kane, to an awkward reception. Expecting her transition to be the focus, it’s instead overshadowed by family secrets and lies which threaten not only their lives – but another Christmas lunch.

A Savage Christmas was written and directed by Madeleine Dyer and Produced by Daniel Mulvihill and Ben McNeill, and features Thea Raveneau, an Aboriginal transgender Woman from Gunggari, Lardil and Kullilli mob, in her first major role alongside Max Jahufer and Rekha Ryan. The film also stars Darren Gilshenan, Helen Thomson, Ryan Morgan, David Roberts and Gary Sweet.

The nanosized crime fighting aliens must enlist Norman’s help to save Earth from Zolthard, an evil intergalactic villain who is now stuck in the school principal’s head.

Norman, his friends, and the aliens must go to great lengths to conceal the presence of alien life at their high school, while they try to continue the galactic struggle between good and evil. After all, Zolthard still has a school to run, and Norman still a life to live and homework to hand in!

Ella Hooper and Van Walker

Ella Hooper and Van Walker
Ella Hooper dug deep on her 2023 solo album, Small Town Temple, and the story is complete with the final single from the record.

‘Oh My Goddess!’ is the sound of an artist coming to terms with her past – “shaking my demons out” – and asserting her independence.

Ella unleashes the goddess within, declaring: “I ain’t gonna kneel for no one. I ain’t gonna smile and sing along. I’ll be my own goddess, I’ll be my own man.”

“This song has been a clear crowd favourite,” Ella says. “It’s about geeing yourself up, slapping yourself on the back, accepting what you’re still working on and taking the plunge anyway."

“It’s kind of the flip side of ‘Old News’, the very first single, which pondered similar themes from a less convinced, confident standpoint. ‘Oh My Goddess!’ is the results – a rallying cry! Not to sound too trite, but self-work works.”

It’s a song that everyone can relate to. “We all have stuff,” Ella notes. “And not all of it is rosy.”

The release of ‘Oh My Goddess!’ caps a remarkable year for the singer and songwriter. “I put big things out there and sometimes big things happen,” Ella smiles. “I always need new challenges, I need to throw myself curveballs, and new material is the best way of doing that.”

Small Town Temple – a deeply personal exploration of family, friendship, community and childhood memories – had a Top 10 debut on ARIA’s Australian albums chart. And it’s been the most critically acclaimed album of Ella’s career, which started when she was a teenager.

Stack: “The strength of Small Town Temple shows that some lives do indeed have a second act. This is the sound of an artist recapturing the joy and innocence of youth and taking control of her career.”

The Age: “The strength of her new album is in the more worldly insight that lights up its darker corners.”

The Canberra Times: “Her voice has never sounded more comfortable, breezing through sun-soaked melodies.”

And Rhythms magazine called Ella “a modern-day Linda Ronstadt”, adding, “This will definitely be one of the albums of the year.”

“It’s been a very rewarding year,” Ella says. “Changing things up made it all feel fresh again. And I’ve realised that making music and playing it live for people is the best job in the world.”

Ella hits the road with ’Specia Guest’ Van Walker to launch the ‘Oh My Goddess’ single throughout October - December
