I attended a Loire sparkling Master class on Tuesday. I went in search of a cheaper alternative to Champagne, I looked at 6 stand out wines and I found them all to be memorable, In their own way.
My first choice –

2019 Chateau Yvonne Bruit
Chenin Blanc.
$95.00.
Loire – Saumur
In the mouth:
Soft entry, rich fruit flavours filled the mouth with small bubbles that cleansed the palate. Illustrating the diversity of sparkling wine from one region to another. This is what makes sparkling wine a wine to drink with a meal or to celebrate that special occasion.
My second choice –
Bernard Fouquet Cuvée Brut Fines bulles NV
Chenin Blanc.
$49.00
Vouvray
On the nose:
A sparkling bouquet of fresh white and yellow flowers that flow through to the palate with small bubbles without being as aggressive as several others I tried. I found this to be my pick for enjoyability and value, with small bubbles making it a delight to drink.
The masterclass, followed by a Loire wine tasting, made even more sumptuous with a well-stocked grazing table.
Thanks, guys.
PS. Conclusion – There is no real alternative to Champagne!

The Rot has set in.
