listen to older voices : lynn thorpe – part 3 Welcome to Listen To Older Voices,
a program produced by Rob Greaves for Wesley Connect and podcast
through the Toorak Times and Tagg.
Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principal of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.

Lynn’s story is another story from the Baby Boomer generation, those born post WWII and who are now entering their senior years. As we listen to Lynn and her story we might reflect on other Baby Boomers stories and realise, that while their age is now generally between 65 and 70+ years of age.  They are still very much active and are leaving quite a legacy.

This is the final program in what has been quite a story featuring the Life & Times of 67-year-old Lynn Thorpe. Lynn continues to regale us with incredible tales of the time she and Billy had in Morocco. She talks of her sadness that she would turn 50 in this wonderful place but not be around her family. Then she shares the story of how Billy not just surprised her, but literally blew her out of the desert with a party to end all parties that included a BIG surprise.
She talks about the development of what is Billy’s opus – the amazing “Tangiers” album that was finished after Billy’s tragic passing ten years ago in Australia. It is difficult at times for Lynn to talk about Bully, for she is a private woman who rarely shares her life with anyone, but still Lynn shares with us some of the pain she went through when Billy died. It wasn’t easy to relive that pain but it is both cathartic for her and helps us, the listeners, understand a little more of this man who was far more than a brilliant musician – he was both a father and a loving husband.

Mick Hamilton and Lynn Thorpe
Lynn is a resilient woman who is finding peace with herself and while the memories of those wonderful years with Billy remain very powerful in her, she is experiencing the next stage of her life, finding peace in a life with her new partner, Mick.
